Artist in Residence Programming
Drop-in art workshops led by local professional artists at Grand Rapids Children's Museum.
This August, the Children's Museum welcomes Brandon Copeland, a local hip-hop and jazz producer, for a hands-on creative program called Seeing Sounds. Kids will explore the connection between music and visual art by using musical instruments and their voices to create a virtual mural. As they experiment with different sounds, they'll discover how audio can transform into colors and patterns, building a collaborative wall display together.
Drop-in sessions run on two weekends: August 14–15 and August 28–29, from 11 AM to 1 PM each day. No registration is needed—just arrive during these times and join in. The program is included with regular museum admission, making it an easy addition to a museum visit. Copeland brings real professional experience to the workshop, having worked as a teaching artist and program coordinator in West Michigan, so kids get to learn directly from someone genuinely passionate about creative expression and community engagement.
