Books to Builds | Grades 4-6

Engineering meets construction at Van Andel—design and build projects for grades 4–6.

Books to Builds invites fourth through sixth graders to discover where storytelling meets hands-on engineering. Over four days, campers explore a different book each day, then use what they've learned to tackle real engineering challenges. It's a program designed around the idea that great stories can inspire creative problem-solving—kids will design, test, and refine their own builds based on the literary adventures they've encountered. Throughout the camp, students work collaboratively to think like engineers, building and improving creations while reflecting on how imagination and persistence fuel invention. The experience balances creative storytelling with practical STEM skills, giving kids a chance to see how the challenges and possibilities in their favorite books can become actual projects. Registration is available through Eventbrite, and the organizers offer a full refund if you need to cancel more than a week before camp starts, or a 50% refund if you cancel within seven days.
