Build a boat, Will it float? - Children's Nature Activity
Hands-on nature science at Blandford: kids design and test boats to learn about buoyancy.
Kids get hands-on with science at this Blandford Nature Center activity, where they'll design and build their own small boats, then test them out to see if they actually float. It's a great way for children to explore buoyancy through experimentation, and the fun continues with mini boat races to find out which designs go fastest and farthest. The program works best for kids ages 5–12, though younger and older children can join if registered.
Plan to bring an adult for each child—this isn't a drop-off program. Registration is recommended since space fills up, and you can sign up online until an hour before the start time (walk-ins accepted if not sold out). Admission is $5 per adult and $8 per child ages 2 and up; children under 2 are free. Since activities take place outdoors and may include park trails, dress for the weather with sturdy shoes. Arrive early, as programs start promptly and groups may leave the starting location if you're late.
