Introduction to Worms & Composting for Kids

Hands-on composting workshop for kids 6–11 at Van Belkum Branch library.

Kids ages 6 to 11 are invited to discover the basics of composting with Wormies Compost. During this one-hour session, your child will learn why composting matters, which materials work best, how to keep a system running smoothly, and when to harvest the finished product. The instructor will walk through two practical setups: a backyard compost pile and a worm bin, so kids understand options that might work for your family. The first five children to arrive will each take home a half-gallon bag of vermicompost to use on houseplants or in a garden—a great hands-on reminder of what they've learned. Space fills quickly on a first-come, first-served basis, so arriving early helps. This program is made possible by support from the Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation and local community funds.
