Rock Band Science | Grades 7-9
Rock Band Science combines music and physics for tweens and teens.
This four-day summer camp invites middle schoolers to discover the science of sound through hands-on music making and engineering. Campers will design and build their own playable instruments using both everyday materials like rubber bands and PVC pipe, plus maker tools including 3D printers and electronics. Through experimentation with vibration, frequency, and pitch, students uncover the physics that makes music work—learning why certain note combinations sound pleasing and others don't.
The camp balances creative building with practical learning. After constructing their instruments, campers learn to actually play them and even compose original rhythms. It's ideal for students entering grades 7–9 who enjoy hands-on projects and want to explore how science connects to the real world. The Van Andel Institute for Education offers full refunds if you cancel more than a week ahead, with 50% refunds available up to seven days before the camp starts. Eventbrite fees aren't refundable.
