Summer Saturdays: Birds of the Great Lakes

Learn about Great Lakes birds at the Grand Rapids Public Museum.

Spend a Saturday at the Grand Rapids Public Museum exploring the fascinating birds of the Great Lakes region. The Grand Rapids Audubon Club will be on hand to discuss their conservation work and lead guided bird watching tours throughout the day. You're welcome to bring your own binoculars, though the Museum will have some available for guests to use. Three separate tours depart at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 1:30 p.m., so you can pick the time that works best for your family. Beyond the outdoor exploration, the Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium will screen "Beyond Our Senses: Bank Swallows," a 30-minute documentary that explores animal behavior and how different creatures experience their environments. The film shows at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and afterward, the film's director will answer questions via a virtual chat. This Summer Saturdays event brings together hands-on learning, conservation education, and Museum experiences—a great way to spend time indoors and outdoors while beating the summer heat.
