Townsend Park: Beginner Birding
Learn to spot and identify birds at Townsend Park.
Get outside and discover the birds around you! Blandford Nature Center educators will guide you on a walk through Townsend Park, starting with the basics of bird identification. You'll learn helpful tips and get suggestions for field guides and phone apps to support your birding adventures. Whether you're picking up binoculars for the first time or you're already a seasoned bird-watcher, you're welcome to join. If you need them, binoculars are available to borrow.
This program works best for adults and kids ages 12 and up, though younger children can attend with a registered adult supervising throughout. Plan to arrive a few minutes early, as the group departs right on time. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes since you'll be walking park trails, which may be unpaved. Preregistration is recommended since space fills up; you can register online until one hour before the start. Walk-ins are welcome if spots remain available. Cost is $8 for adults and children ages 2 and up; children under 2 are free.
