Unseen Oceans
Discover ocean exploration tech and marine life through interactive stations.
Unseen Oceans invites families to explore the mysteries of our planet's oceans through an interactive exhibition developed by the American Museum of Natural History. More than 70 percent of Earth is covered by water, but much of it remains unexplored—until now. Using modern technology like robotics, satellite monitoring, and high-definition imaging, scientists are discovering what lies beneath the waves. This exhibit brings those discoveries to life, showing visitors how researchers are uncovering the secrets of our blue planet.
Your family will experience an immersive submersible theatre for a virtual underwater adventure, see larger-than-life models of unusual sea creatures, and explore fossils from Earth's history including ammonite shells and megalodon teeth. Interactive stations, a partial replica of a real submersible (perfect for photos), and 180-degree screens showing life-sized animations of blue whales, giant squid, and manta rays round out the experience. The exhibit also features glowing models of bioluminescent fish and turtles, giving kids a sense of how these creatures actually appear in the deep ocean. Museum admission applies; planetarium shows are available for an additional ticket.
